Actions you can perform on a selected shape.

Shape Actions

When you select a shape, a floating toolbar appears with actions you can use to reshape, cut holes, set start/end points, edit fill angle, or lock the shape. The actions shown depend on what’s selected (e.g. a single path, a fill shape, or an image).

One common theme you'll see throughout Ember, is that to exit or complete any current state you'll often click Enter. This will be the case for pretty much any of the states below.

Reshape

Reshape lets you edit the path of a selected shape. It’s available when exactly one non-text shape is selected and the shape isn’t locked. Click Reshape to enter reshape mode, then drag points to change the outline.

You can also insert new points, right click to insert a straight point and left click for a curved one.

To delete any points, just select a point and click Backspace

If any holes exist in the shape, you can reshape them or delete them by selecting one of their points and clicking the "delete hole" button that appears.

To finish Reshape: Click Enter

Tips:

  • Use the arrows keys on your keyboard to "nudge" selected points for more accuracy
  • Double clicking a point will toggle between "straight" and "curved" points

Cut holes

Cut holes lets you subtract inner regions from a filled shape so stitches don’t run there. It’s available when a single filled shape is selected and not locked. Use it to punch out holes (e.g. for eyes or negative space) without splitting the shape.

You can use any of the available shapes on the editor toolbar to cut different types of holes. For open and closed shapes, you'll want to click Enter to finish the hole.

Your holes must stay inside the shape and not intersect.

To delete a hole: Refer to the "Reshape" section above

To finish Cut Holes: Once your hole outlines are created (you'll see flashing dashed lines), you click Enter to finalize and cut the holes.

Start/end

Start/end lets you choose where stitching begins and ends on a path. It’s available for a single shape that’s filled, satin blocks, or satin outline. Setting start and end helps control thread direction and reduce visible jumps.

To finish Start/end: Click Enter

Edit angle

Edit angle adjusts the fill angle for selected shapes. It’s available when all selected shapes are filled and none are locked.

Editing a fill's angle is an amazing way to introduce depth and detail into your design. It's also very useful, and sometimes critical, in equally dispersing tension across the garment so it doesn't pull in any one direction.

Try to change fills angles to be varying direction to minimize distorting the garment.

To finish Edit angle: Click Enter

Lock

Lock toggles whether the selected shape(s) can be moved or edited. Locked shapes stay in place and no longer show reshape, cut holes, start/end, or edit angle. Use lock when you’re happy with a shape and want to avoid accidental changes. Click again to unlock.
