Getting Started

Let's make something!

Learn the basics of how to use Ember to digitize embroidery designs and export them.

Overview

The Ember editor is where you bring your ideas to life. It's designed to be approachable and intuitive for beginners while still giving experienced digitizers the control they need. Let's explore the basics by making something simple, a patch!

Step 1: We'll start with a "closed" shape

Locate the editor toolbar at the bottom of your screen, and let's select the "closed shape" option. Open shape tool

Step 2: Let's draw our shape

Now that we've selected our shape, lets plot some points on the canvas.

  • Right click to plot a "straight" point OR left click to plot a "curved" point.
  • Once you've drawn all your points, press Enter to complete the shape
  • Note: For "closed shapes" clicking Enter will automatically connect the first and last points Open shape tool

Step 3: Fill the shape and change it's color

We now have a shape, it's currently defaulted to a "single run" and isn't filled but let's change that and also make the color some sort of blue because... why not.

  • With our shape selected, you'll see a menu appear to the top left. These are the shape's settings.
  • Instead of "Outlined", lets select "Filled"
  • To change the color, let's select the "+" button under the colors section and move towards a blue Open shape tool

Step 4: Add some text, adjust the size, and add a satin border

Lets add the final pieces to this patch!

  • Let's navigate to the left sidebar and click the "T" icon to add text
  • Type in what you want, select your font style, click "insert", and position the text
  • We might have to resize our filled shape to fit our new text, you can do that by selecting the shape and dragging the sides or corners of the blue outline
  • Once our text is in position and fits well, lets copy the filled shape with "ctrl+c", paste it with "ctrl+v" and convert it to a satin outline using our shape settings in the top left Open shape tool

Step 5: Finally, let's export our design!

We've completely finished the patch now, you can even check mine out here. To actually export and use this design in our machine, we'll want to:

  • Navigate to the top left of the screen
  • Optionally, click into "Untitled Embroidery" and type in a name
  • Expand that menu by click the downward arrow
  • Select the export file type compatible with your machine
  • Click "Export file" Rename and export
